A stink that comes from copious amounts of obnxious garbage which supposedly passes for fiction?
There's always been porn. Porn can be strictly sexual or it can have elements of horror in it. It can be funny or serious. Eurotrash is a funny show that actually parodies itself.
But let me tell you when it isn't funny. It isn't funny when it takes itself seriously, when it becomes the tool of someone with an agenda.
Now what causes someone to have 'an agenda?' Well, many things if they are angry at the world or they want to spit in the face of authority, real or imagined they have what is known as an agenda. An agenda means there is no thought behind their obsession, there is merely obsession.
Now then, what do you think is the ultimate authority, the authority of all authorities? Give up? Well I would think it's religion. Now it is possible for some purveyor of porn-centered odious effluence to focus their sense of utter failure about themselves toward such a figure (s). If you can't build, you tear down. If you can't love, you hate.
Everyone has the right to believe as they choose, but to spew out contraversial filth that is offensive to many people is really a step too far in my opinion.
Lowering the debate to gutter level contributes nothing, it is purely a tactic and not a very respectable or intellectual one.
I consider such gutter level arguments to be akin to stepping in dog excrement and we all know how tiresome that can be because it seems to spread whatever we do. The thing is to get it off our shoes.
Apply the same principle to the porn merchants, the pain givers, those who seek to tear down and puke over what they see as threatening them.
Puke, dog dirt, sewer overflow, it's all the same whether it's in the street or its passing for fiction.

I thoroughly love films like Devil's Advocate: intelligent, well-crafted stories that seek to have us see things from a hugely different point of view.
But there has to be taste and respect, some sort of code backing it up otherwise it is, in my opinion, porn.
I'm all for pushing boundaries and being as radical as hell but I don't want to lose me dinner.

Interesting post, Carole. I won't mention my religious preference, because it doesn't matter. What does matter is that everyone on both sides of the fence use some common sense and not try to offend the entire world. The anti religious lot can certainly display a lot of hate and spew much filth. That's wrong. Of course, the same thing happens with a lot of religious groups: example the church that holds anti-war hate crap when a soldier is buried. Again, that's wrong.
No black and white other than both sides can cause my friend Carole to lose her dinner. and that is also a bad thing.

I am a believer in freedom of speech, i also respect other people's beliefs
but when they use gutter tactics, running down all religion as they see fit, being obnoxious and repellent, I draw the line.
I feel strongly and have done this rant.
